Ireland: A Memorable Trip to a Magical Place

Ireland is one of the most beautiful, amazing, and magical places I have ever been. Indeed, the most difficult thing about my trip to Ireland was leaving. The gentle strength of the culture and the people is pervasive in its richness and the historical past is intermeshed with the modern present in a magnificent juxtaposition that leaves the physical as well as etheric senses reeling. Even though I experienced this myriad of sensation, I feel as though I barely scratched the surface of what this land has to discover and behold.

I took this journey with my boyfriend, Keevin, who is a wonderful companion, both in life and travel. We rented a car and drove all over the northern and western parts of Ireland (the southern counties are still there for us to have adventure with). Renting a car and driving around is the best way to see a place. We were only there for a little over a week (which is just not enough time) but because we were in a car we really got to make the most out of our time and see the country in a way that you just can’t from a tour bus.Driving on the left side of the road proved to be very interesting at first but once we got the hang of it (after hitting a few curbs and having a couple of heart attacks) it went quite well and became easy.

Ireland is steeped in myth, legend, and spirituality. The pagan religions that existed there before Christianity were based on a relationship with the Earth and like many of the polytheistic religions of the world; there were gods and goddesses for every aspect of nature that were honored. ‘Spirit’ was a very tangible concept for the people of this land as it was deeply ingrained in their way of daily life.

You can imagine that for a medium to visit the sacred sites of a place that has such a raw, organic spirituality was somewhat like being a kid in a candy store. I felt this deep and ancient energy pulsing in the land, still very present, even next to the modern monuments of the new religion that swept through the country in the 5th and 6th centuries. Even in modern times, up until the mid-90’s there was major religious tension and civil wars were fought over peoples opinions, beliefs, and interpretations of God.

Today, they stand side by side and all aspects of understanding God are there for anyone who seeks them. I felt tremendous energy from the passage tombs that we toured such as Newgrange, Knowth, and the Hill of Tara. We journeyed to some of the most sacred sites and places of power for the ancestors who were there before us. I felt a deep connection with the Spirits of the Earth and understood why this place is seen as a major spiritual center. Standing in some of the same places where prehistoric people worshipped and honored the land was amazing to say the least. When I was on the Hill of Tara, I knew that I had come home to a place I had lived before and that I was there to reclaim a part of myself from long ago.

I had some mixed feelings as I traveled through Northern Ireland. This part of the Emerald Isle had some of the most breathtaking scenery I have ever beheld and I felt very at peace in many areas. However, I could still feel the wounds of “The Troubles”, a massive civil war between Catholics and Protestants that raged from the late 60’s to the late 90’s. I could see and feel many spirits not at rest in some of these parts, especially around the cities. In other areas, I felt the energy of many nature spirits, the guardians of the land and the energy within it. It would be difficult for anyone to stand in the middle of a stone circle, or walk through a passage tomb where the dead were honored and rituals were conducted, and not feel something. Some of the places we went felt electric while others felt very…sad.

ireland_l.jpgIt was also very interesting how many of the burial sites and places of worship were perfectly aligned with the movement of celestial bodies and events, such as the winter solstice. This was also true when I was in Egypt. How did they know this? How did they do some of the things they did when we can only duplicate them with our most modern equipment? I think they were far more advanced and were working with technologies that were lost to us a long time ago. For me, it confirmed the presence of highly evolved races of people, perhaps from Atlantis or elsewhere. I wanted to know more about these ancestors and feel that future travels will teach me more about them.

I feel that the spirits of this land that were once revered and worshiped by the people are still very present. Some of them seemed friendlier than others. Many of them felt happy to be a part of our modern evolution and others still seemed very upset about the past. Many of the spiritual beings I encountered indicated that they were remaining there to help us continue to grow. Others were there simply because they were to angry to let go. I appreciated and respected all of them and feel that I even brought some of the helpers back with me. I look forward to future visits to this place and continuing my discovery of it’s secrets and wonders. Ireland is a “must see” for anyone who wishes to connect with their spirituality in a deeper way and feels a resonance with the Celtic past.

Wow, Jaena, it sounds like you had a very magical time. I once heard a story about Ireland that there were people from space who were looking for a new home and they saw the emerald isle and asked the goddess who lived there if they could settle there and make it their new home. She said yes, so long as they named it after her. And they did. In Galic, I believe its Eire, but I'm not sure of the spelling. We call it Ireland.
